Acupuncture in the time of COVID

Updated: Aug 29

Whenever the Shelter in Place mandate is lifted, I plan to reopen my doors.

But, I think and hope we're all realizing we can never go back to the way things were. This is always true, but in the time of COVID that necessitates some dramatic shifts in the way I practice medicine.I want you to be aware of these precautions I'll be taking:

  • I'm spacing appointments 30 minutes apart, so that I have time to run a UVC sterilizer, open a window to air out the room, and spray down all surfaces (including light switches and door knobs) with a disinfectant.

  • I'll be taking your temperature with a contactless thermometer before you enter the apartment. If you have a temperature over 99.9 degrees Fahrenheit your appointment will be cancelled (with no charge).

  • Standard protocol is to wash my hands before and after handling needles, which of course I will continue to observe.

  • I will wear a mask while in the treatment room

  • All conversation and pulse taking will happen on the treatment table. All future appointments will be booked online rather than in person.

  • I will not be using a face cradle (and thus will not be offering face-down treatments). I encourage you to bring your own blanket, although I will have sheets to drape you if necessary.

  • No massage will be offered, although I may augment your acupuncture with guided meditations, moxibustion, cupping, gua sha, and/or Reiki.

What I need from you:

  • Wear a comfortable mask to your appointment (it will remain on during the treatment).

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing

  • If you have a fever, cough, or nausea, or think you may have been exposed to an infected vector during the past two weeks, please stay home.

I'm also still offering virtual herbal consultations, Tarot readings, and group meditations, which are great options whether or not you're choosing to remain in quarantine.

Although many of my colleagues are raising their rates to compensate for the additional precautions, I will be keeping my rates unchanged since I'm not able to offer as much hands-on work, and sessions may be shorter. If you are out of work please contact me directly about sliding scale options.

I'm really looking forward to working with patients in person again! All these precautions are to ensure that I stay healthy so that I can continue offering my services, and that you stay healthy after you leave my office.
